Engagement, 1912

"Amy and I have officially become engaged in Pittsburg at the Philips Conservatory at the Arboretum. A huge water lily in blossom spread its flat, round leaves curled up on the edges upon the pool's still water. In such a setting we became engaged. I placed a solitaire diamond ring upon her finger and solemnly we kissed."

       - Original Source: Fred Patchell notes, 1970's. Amy Patchell spoke of the engagement to her friend Mary Rankin in Pittsburg. Her mother and father approved too.

The ring was passed down to her oldest daughter Gretchen for her marriage to Warrant Officer Omer C. Adams. This was passed to her daughter on her marriage then to her granddaughter.
